Kati Basti is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy designed to provide relief for lower back pain and related ailments. It is a specialized treatment where warm medicated oil is used to nourish and heal the lower back region.

How Kati Basti Works

  1. Preparation:

    • A dough made from black gram flour or whole wheat flour is used to create a ring-like structure that fits snugly on the lower back (lumbosacral region).

    • This acts as a barrier to hold the warm medicated oil in place.

  2. Application:

    • The patient lies face down on a comfortable therapy bed.

    • The dough ring is placed over the lower back, ensuring it adheres well to prevent oil leakage.

    • Warm medicated oil (selected based on the individual's condition and dosha imbalance) is poured into the ring.

  3. Therapy:

    • The oil is maintained at a specific warm temperature and replenished as it cools.

    • The therapy typically lasts 30–40 minutes.

  4. Post-Treatment:

    • After the oil is removed, the back is gently massaged.

    • The area may be covered with a warm compress to enhance relaxation and absorption of the medicinal properties.
